*Well this should be a stupid excuse for a first blog post, but whatever.*
What is it to be idiosyncratic? (Gosh, I just love that word.) What's so good about being unique?
Well first of all, being unique isn't something you really plan to do. It's not something you would actually work too hard on to become it. It's something you're born with. Everybody is born with it. But it's like a disease, you know? It's a thing that when people feel the flawed part of it, they try to "cure" it with different things . They try to obliterate their uniqueness to be able to fit in. They do this in order to be accepted and noticed by the people who have found them invisible. They think they are curing themselves but in truth, they are destroying who they really are.
But if they do in time so, finally be accepted by the clique they wish to be in, would they still be the same person? Would you still be you? You may have found people who liked you because of the common things they see between you and them, but would they like you for what you're not compatible with, with them? That's the thing about why people try to lose themselves to be able to be accepted in society. You are apparently obligated to fit in. Here's one of my favourite quotes from a movie and it said, "Why are you trying so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out?" (What a Girl Wants {2003}) So why are we trying so hard? If you want to be noticed by the world, do what you want to do and not what other people want you to do. But know that along the way, you should not lose yourself because in this world, no matter how many friend you got, no matter how much your family loves you, you are the only one who knows you so well. And if you lose yourself, make sure you get up again and find the right way.
Being idiosyncratic is not a hard thing to do. It's just simply being you.
Life is a journey. Just keep on keeping on and don't worry about the future! Worry about now and what you want to do because the future is where you can look back to these moments and smile and think, "Damn, I had a great time."
Be happy! Be weird! Be a nerd! Be cool! Just never forget to be YOU. BECAUSE YOU ARE AWESOME. xx
